ABOUT THE JOB

 

The Senior Advanced Development Engineer will investigate new innovative ways to solve business problems and bring these opportunities to life by leading the design, development and validation of these new solutions. In this position, you will develop products that will drive our company’s growth as the nation's leading manufacturer of fiberglass and steel exterior door systems, and the most preferred brand of entry doors among building professionals in the U.S. Be challenged with complex engineering problems that require critical thinking and advanced solutions that stretch your talents and expand your horizons. This position is located in our state-of-the-art Innovation Center in greater Toledo, Ohio region where our engineering teams get to work closely with our product management, project management and insights teams in a collaborative and creative environment.

 

 

YOUR ROLE:

  • Develop innovation concepts into commercially viable product offerings that fit the current and future product portfolio in accordance with the stage gate development process
  • Collaborate proactively to understand product requirements and pursue creative solutions to challenging problems
  • Leverage rapid prototyping and reverse engineering to enable validated decision-making
  • Investigate technologies, innovations and opportunities, increase company knowledge and gather insight
  • Develops detailed DVP’s, coordinates, and troubleshoots to ensure requirements are met for release
  • Preparation and documentation of a final New Product Development (NPD) handover package
  • Lead detailed technical discussions and design reviews with other cross functional teams in the company
  • Liaison with suppliers, customers, and manufacturing staff for the creation and development of new products
  • Prepare project reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing technical data to inform decisions
  • Assure product quality with thorough validation testing and confirmation of fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Make and implement recommendations to improve team performance and enhance product functionality
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science or master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (i.e., mechanical, materials, chemical, or related) from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant engineering design or project experience in an NPD Stage Gate setting
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks and/or Solid Edge preferred), Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
  • Working familiarity with typical project planning software
  • Experience with measurement and laboratory equipment (e.g., 3D Printer, CMM, CNC, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient with structural analysis tools (FEA, DOE) to solve problems in static and dynamics
  • Skilled use and knowledge of engineering tools such as DOE’s, Tolerance Stack-ups, DFMEA’s and DVP&R’s
  • Self-motivated problem solver with “hands-on” application ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and influential leadership ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to meet technical challenges with creative and innovative solutions to technical challenges
