Overview

In this role you will work with cross functional teams to design, develop and validate new products from concept to launch. The successful candidate is hands-on, has acute technical abilities, mechanical design and manufacturing experience. These skills, combined with flexibility, a problem-solving orientation, solid communication skills and attention to detail, will enable successful design implementation. The position will report to the Sr. NPD Engineering Manager and be located in New London, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of new product designs and/or product changes.
  • Manage product and system design requirements, conduct DFMEA’s, design reviews, DOE’s, tolerance stackups, limit testing, etc. to bring new products through production into the market place predictably.
  • Support supply chain personnel, vendors, and manufacturing staff with the specifications and sourcing of raw materials, components and final products.
  • Focus on product quality with thorough validation of production fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Deliver manufacturing and operations support during critical product launch phases.
  • Collaborate with Quality department to address any outstanding internal and external quality and product issues.
  • Learn and apply lean product development tools, systematic problem solving and critical thinking to new product development and continuous improvement projects.

WORK LIFE BALANCE

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years product design and development experience in plastics and metal
  • Minimum 3-5 years 3-D Parametric Solid Modeling experience (Solidworks preferred) and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
  • Understand DFMEA’s, design reviews and utilize other robust engineering practices such as DOE’s, tolerance stackups, limit testing, etc. to bring new products through production into the market place predictably
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability for problem solving

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Provide manufacturing and operations support during critical product launch phases.
  • New product development launch and Stage Gate experience.
  • Experience with plastics manufacturing methods desirable, thermoplastic extrusions a plus.
  • Liaison with supply chain personnel, vendors, and manufacturing staff for the specification and sourcing of raw materials, components and final products.
  • Ensure engineering requirements are met for production release.
  • Assure product quality with thorough validation of production fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Work closely with Quality department to address any outstanding internal and external quality and product issues.
  • Knowledge of lean product development tools, using systematic problem solving and critical thinking to new product development and continuous improvement projects.
