As the Senior Controls Engineer you will provide technical support and leadership to the plant controls operations team.  Your responsibilities include upkeep and improvement of control systems for critical equipment in fiberglass molding, door assembly, and door finishing.  In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead new product development (NPD) projects from concept through completion.  You will lead, mentor, train, and coordinate work for hourly Controls Technicians.  Strong communication and good teamwork will be needed to smoothly implement key projects. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate work for hourly Controls Technicians
  • Mentor, train, and develop Controls Technicians for 3 shift production support
  • Create training program for internal talent development
  • Assist plant operations with technical questions and potential solutions
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Support standardized documentation of PLC systems logic and HMIs for run, reset, and recovery
  • Streamline and advance technology for PLCs, sensors, and other electrical components for the plant
  • Work with Maintenance and Controls to ensure critical spare parts are stocked for controls items
  • Lead Controls Technicians with project work and implementing improvements
  • Promote housekeeping and 5S standards
  • Equipment Protection and Safety
  • Make changes to equipment controls to improve reliability and safety
  • Good understanding of OSHA safety requirements
  • Adhere to plant LOTO standards and comply with safety regulations
  • Review new equipment controls for safety effectiveness
  • Equipment and facilities
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment problems
  • Lead process improvement and cost savings initiatives
  • Create control specifications for new equipment
  • Aid in the installation and startup of new equipment
  • Standardize control equipment
  • Setup and maintain necessary networks, software, tools for effective controls work
  • Manage outside resources when necessary
  • Strong programming skills, predominately Allen Bradley PLC control systems
  • Ability to integrate typical production I/O, drive systems, including all electrical panel components
  • Ability to generate electrical drawings for new projects and equipment changes


  • Preferably have BSEE or equivalent
  • 10+ years Controls Experience
  • Lead or Managerial experience with direct reports
  • Ability to read blueprints and machine control schematics
  • Ability to navigate via PLC operation sequence, I/O information, and instrumentation feedback
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a group
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Rockwell/Allen Bradley/Red Lion PLC control systems
